I was at a mate’s birthday bash at a bar last Friday. I have not seen her in a long time and she said she recently started a fashion blog on a free weblog platform. I asked her why she did not just buy a domain for very little money and have her own customised address if it is available. She said she cannot be bothered with having a proper web hosting which she does not know much about. I told her it is not like she has to man servers herself, that is why there is a thing called managed hosting. Having a good core for your website is a good investment in the long run. A fashion blog as one can imagine, is heavy on images and graphics, having a good host will enable you to be sure that your website has a good back up. When your host also has colocation, it also shows how well they can deliver their service. It was not exactly an ideal time to discuss technical stuff, with the booze and the location, all I got was, ‘you lost me at yeah’. She suggested that we continue our discussion when we have sobered up.

In the end, I managed to convince her to get her own domain. She is currently busy filling it up with tons of photos of the latest trends in fashion, from tiny bits and big bits of accessories to long dresses and the latest ensembles that constitute a look, a way of wearing them from hair to makeup. She also plans to have how-to videos in it, which is another reason to get a good host.  To be honest, this should be considered as a way overdue project.  Such a creative person should have invaded cyberspace ages ago.
